Tips for Choosing Where to Stay in Athens with Acropolis Views
Before getting into hotel recommendations, here are a few tips for choosing the right place to stay on your trip. There’s a ton of different options for hotels near the Acropolis in Athens so it’s important to consider some key factors to choose what works best for you!
1. Choose the Right Neighborhood:
Many neighborhoods have views of the Acropolis, but some are more charming historic, or trendy than others. I’ll go into more detail on each neighborhood throughout this post to help, but some things to consider are below.
- Do I want to be close to bars and nightlife?
- Do I want to stay somewhere with a local feel?
- Do I want to stay somewhere historic?
- How far do I want to walk to get to attractions?
- Do I want a family oriented or solo travel spot?
2. Consider what type of view you want
In addition to wanting a view of the Acropolis from your hotel, consider the type of view you want! Would you be okay with a view from your window or would you prefer a terrace or balcony? Do you want to be able to eat with a view on a rooftop?
This also helps you consider your budget. While luxury hotels are more likely to guarantee Acropolis views, some mid-range and budget options also offer excellent views, especially if they have rooftop areas accessible to guests.
Either way, always confirm when booking that you’ve chose a room that has a view as some rooms at the hotels on this list will offer a view only from a particular side and you may pay extra for a nice view.
3. Book in advance
As mentioned, the Acropolis is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world! Book your room far in advance, especially if you’re visiting during peak season (late spring and summer).
Plus, booking well in advance increases your chances of finding a good deal. Hotels are often cheaper far in advance than last minute. This goes for finding cheap flights, too.
4. Consider your Transportation and Accessibility
Consider how easy it will be to get around from your hotel. I always recommend staying near a metro station so you can take public transit easily. The Acropolis metro station (on the red line) is centrally located, making it easy to get around the city.
If you enjoy walking, staying in a neighborhood within walking distance of the Acropolis allows you to explore the area at your own pace and return to your hotel for breaks.
5. Consider Your Itinerary
If you plan to visit the Acropolis early in the morning or late in the afternoon, staying nearby can be very convenient. It also means you can quickly return to your hotel to freshen up before heading out for dinner or an evening stroll.
Also, if you’re only staying for a few days, it could be worth it to splurge on a nice hotel with a view close to everything you’re doing in Athens! If you’re staying for longer, you may want to choose something more budget-friendly on the list.
6. Review what’s included
Most of the hotels on this list will include some great extras. It’s very common for hotels in Athens to include things like breakfast, bikes, or bottled water. Double check the rate you book includes anything you might need, and take this into account when budgeting your trip.

Known as the “Neighborhood of the Gods,” Plaka is the oldest part of Athens. It offers charming sidewalk cafes, winding cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and many hotels with direct views of the Acropolis.
Plaka is famous for its many cafes, tavernas, and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Greek cuisine. Dining in Plaka offers various experiences, from casual street-side cafes to more formal establishments with live music. Plaka is an excellent choice for accommodation if you want to be close to the heart of ancient Athens. This 5-star hotel is in a great location in the center of Plaka, facing the Acropolis. It offers personalized service, a beautiful rooftop pool, and well-furnished rooms with a buffet breakfast included.
Superior rooms, junior suites, and suites offer views of the Acropolis, while classic rooms have views of the surrounding area. Even without staying in a room with a view, the rooftop pool and terrace offer amazing views and make staying at this hotel well worth it, in my opinion!
Divani Palace Acropolis
This is my favorite hotel in Athens! Featuring breathtaking views of the Acropolis from its rooftop terrace, Divani Palace Acropolis offers comfortable, elegant rooms.
All with private furnished balconies, Divani Palace rooms are decorated in natural colors and have a relaxing feel. Most rooms offer spectacular views of the Acropolis and Philopappou Hill. They also have an excellent rooftop that serves Greek and international dishes with a view.
One of the most unique things about this hotel is that ancient ruins of Themistocles Wall were discovered in the foundations during construction and tastefully incorporated into the hotel’s architectural design.
Phaedra Hotel
Hotels in Koukaki with an Acropolis View
Located just south of the Acropolis, Koukaki is a trendy neighborhood with a more local feel. It’s quieter than Plaka but still offers several hotels with excellent views. It is one of the city’s most creative and charming corners.
Koukaki offers a more residential and authentic Athenian experience than busier tourist districts. The neighborhood is filled with locals going about their daily lives, and you’ll find a mix of young professionals, families, and long-time residents.
One of Koukaki’s biggest draws is its proximity to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Syntagma is one of the most central and important neighborhoods in Athens, often called the heart of the city. It’s a hub for political, commercial, and social life in Athens, making it a prime location for both visitors and locals.
The area is named after Syntagma Square, which translates to “Constitution Square,” reflecting its historical significance in modern Greek history. Syntagma is within walking distance of several key Athenian attractions, including the Acropolis, Plaka, Monastiraki, and the Ancient Agora. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the city.
Syntagma is home to some of Athens’ most luxurious hotels. The area also boasts fine dining options, including high-end restaurants and rooftop bars with panoramic views. Hotels in Neos Kosmos with an Acropolis View
Neos Kosmos is a residential neighborhood in Athens, situated just south of the city center and close to some of the city’s most famous landmarks. It’s a less touristy area compared to other parts of Athens, offering a more authentic Athenian experience with a mix of modern and traditional elements.
Neos Kosmos is well-connected by public transportation, making exploring other parts of Athens easy, but parts are not within walking distance of the Acropolis. The Neos Kosmos metro station connects to the city center and southern suburbs. Several tram lines also run through the area, providing easy access to the coastal neighborhoods of Athens.
Grand Hyatt Athens
With its sweeping views of the Acropolis and the Aegean Sea, the Grand Hyatt Athens offers five-star comforts and modern services, making it an optimal home base in Athens.
This is one of the newest hotels on this list, opened in August 2018, and features a brand new spa, atrium pool & bar, and a rooftop with stunning views over the Acropolis. Rooms are also big and comfortable here, which is different from some of the historic hotels on this list.

Royal Olympic Hotel is located in front of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and features an outdoor pool and a fitness center. When staying here, you’ll have a view of the temple of Zeus and the Acropolis right behind it!
The Athenaeum
The Athenaeum is a brand-new hotel with a sophisticated design and authentic, warm, and friendly hospitality. It is an excellent, more affordable option for a luxury hotel with amazing views.

Each room here is designed to showcase a different view of refinement and reflect a distinctive experience. In addition to rooms with a view, their rooftop restaurant also has incredible views.
Hotels in Thissio with an Acropolis View
West of the Acropolis, Thissio has neoclassical buildings that line hilly streets alongside open-air cafes, cozy wine bars, and rooftop restaurants with views. It’s a favorite spot among locals and tourists for leisurely strolls, outdoor cafes, and stunning sunsets.
Thissio has a bohemian and artistic vibe, with street performers, artists, and musicians often found along its main streets. The area also hosts occasional art exhibits and cultural events, adding to its creative atmosphere.
There are plenty of leisurely strolls, outdoor cafes, and stunning sunsets to be found here! Thissio is also a short walk from the neighborhoods of Monastiraki and Plaka, making it easy to explore multiple areas in one day. If you prefer to be slightly removed from the busier areas, it’s an excellent area but still accessible.
Hotel Thissio
This small boutique hotel promises a stay experience that is positively saturated with Athenian vibes and incredible views. Rooms are characterized by modern design and minimalistic style, with earthy and pale color tones.
Many rooms include a private terrace overlooking the Acropolis, which features large windows. From the comfort of your bed, you can gaze upon the famous landmarks.
Acropolis Vision
Acropolis Vision is an old neoclassical residence recently renovated into a charming small hotel with marble, high ceilings, and plane trees, bringing you a slice of urban nature.
The property is ideally located right on the pedestrian walkway Apostolou Pavlou, lined with street vendors, musicians, Athens’ cultural inheritance, daily life, and vibes. Rooms here are on the smaller side, but they have a modern, cozy feel and a great view from their rooftop.

We loved finding a hotel with an amazing view of the Acropolis when we stayed in Athens. Great to know there are some other great choices for a return visit. I love when here are rooftop bars or lounge areas to sit and enjoy the view. Good to remind people to book early if they want these hotels with a view!
